Making travel plans takes time, money, and research. No matter where you’re traveling, and no matter what means of transportation you’re using, you can simplify your travel plans in a variety of ways. The following tips provide you with information on how to have a safe, comfortable, relaxing, and inexpensive trip.

Before you travel internationally, learn where your country’s embassies and consulates are in your destination country. These are not resources for the casual traveler. Hopefully you will never need them. If you find yourself in legal trouble, though, consulates and embassies can provide vital assistance in navigating unfamiliar and unfriendly legal waters.

If you go traveling abroad, be aware of your surroundings, especially when taking taxis. Prior to getting into a taxi, be sure it is legit. Any idiots can slap a “taxi” sign onto their car and you never know who they might be or where they might end up taking you.

Try to eat something very mild during the meal prior to your plane ride. You don’t want to feel nauseous or have to use the bathroom numerous times during the flight. A piece of toast for breakfast or a cup of soup for lunch would be a great option.

Did you know that you can use snow to do a quick cleanup on your vehicle while you are traveling? A car wash would work better but snow works quite well in a pinch. It will remove the mud that got all over your rental vehicle when you ventured onto that back road. It also works well to get grime buildup off of your windshield in an emergency.

Make your travel plans more affordable by looking through the website of the airport that you will be visiting. You can get information about charter airlines that will not show up in other online flight searches. The airport will also have information on low-cost carriers. Both of these options can save you money, but make sure that you check for hidden fees.

Bring several clothespins! One of the notorious issues with hotels is the fact that their curtains never close all the way. To prevent that beam of light from hitting you in the wee hours of the morning, simply pin the curtains shut before you head to bed. It’s a cheap and effective way to better your sleep.

Do not inadvertently recline onto someone. Always check to see what the person behind you is doing, and politely ask if you can recline before doing so. Reclining your seat without warning results in spilled drinks, broken laptops, and injured passengers, so you may want to make sure that they aren’t doing anything important.

To avoid paying high airport prices for snacks and food, make sure to pack your own bag of treats before you leave home. Pretzels, crackers, trail mix and dried fruit, are all great airplane snack ideas. If you bring your own, you won’t have to pay an arm and a leg for snacks at the airport or on board the plane.

No matter where you travel, weather watching is key. Take time when planning your trip to examine the normal weather conditions for the time you are visiting. Knowing this allows you to pack properly and plan accordingly. Checking constantly will allow you to alter your plans, if necessary, due to sudden changes in forecast.

When traveling in a car, make sure to keep a small trash bag with you. You will invariably collect some trash while eating or drinking, and the mess can accumulate quickly. Having a bag handy will allow you to keep your car organized and clean, creating a nice environment for you to drive in.

Be aware of unlisted space during cruise travel. For security reasons, the ship’s brochure can’t show you where stairwells or other common areas are located. If you want to book a larger room and it is located near one of these places, it will probably mean less space for you. Consider spending the extra money on another amenity instead.

While traveling, when you are in a crowd of people, you do not want your valuables to be noticed by others. Take a re-usable coffee cup with a lid, place your valuables inside of the coffee cup and “sip” on your coffee from time to time. This way your valuables are stored in such a manner, that most people will assume this is your beverage. Keep the coffee cup in your hands at all times.

You can save time in the security line by purchasing a Clear Security Pass. Many large airports, and a few smaller one, are offering this high-tech pass to pre-screened travelers. The initial cost can save a traveler hours spent in security lines and the stress associated with the normal screening process.

It can be difficult to eat healhty while traveling. Skip the roadside restaurants, but instead bring your own food. Pack your cooler with fruits and vegetables, crackers, yogurt, granola bars and cheese. These things are easy to pack, and easy to eat while on the road. Don’t forget the water, it will help you stay hydrated as you drive.

When you return from traveling, carefully look through all your suitcases to see what you accidentally brought back with you. You will probably still have things like itineraries, brochures, maps, ticket stubs and other items. Choose the ones that look the best and pair them with a few of your best pictures from your trip. Make the items into a collage and put them in a frame, giving you an incredible souvenir of the things you did on your trip.

Whether for business or pleasure, traveling can be a hassle. Both your national and international travel plans are subject to a host of snags and snafus from the time you book a hotel to the time you arrive back home again. However, if you follow the advice in these tips, you can save both time and money and make your trip less stressful and more enjoyable.
